One Trigger, Multiple Trains of Thought

When those who know me offer mind altering substances they know my “No” is not a comment on their behaviour. They accept my statement that my mind is a far more interesting place without drugs and that, for me, drugs get in the way of my minds ability to explore a new train or trains of thought.

TracksMultiple

Although it is important that I am comfortable with the fact that their acceptance of that statement means they feel I have a way higher than average level of craziness in how my mind works.

Multiple trains of thought was in my mind today after the time change set off two quite different ideas in my mind. These ideas were not distinctly separate but woven together in a way that drew my mind along.

And so it is I present A and B.

Train Track A

1HateTimeChangej

Every spring the government makes us spring ahead.

2Ahead

We lose an hour of OUR time. Well, it is not so much lost as stolen by the Government

3hourgassj

Although we do get the hour returned [back] in the fall when we regain the lost hour and bring our time account back into a zero balance.

4FallBack

The question I have is where does the government store the time between the time they take and hour and the time they return the hour?

5TimeStorage

And what does the government do with all that time while they have their hands on it?

Train Track B

1aWhydoing

Because, to politicians and many others ‘that’s the way we do it’ is a good reason to keep doing something long after the reason it was originally done ceases to apply.

Ignoring the inconvenience and negative consequences resulting from changing to [and from] Daylight Savings Time.

Although with ‘that’s the way we do it’ at least we know what the price we will pay will be. Which makes it marginally better than current government and citizen favourites ‘that’s what I believe’, ‘that sounds good’, ‘voter will like the sound of that’ or that getting re-elected favourite ‘that’s what voters want’.

So it is that we stagger along with an economy where more and more people slip not simply into poverty but into a poverty where people cannot afford the necessities of life [food and shelter] because politicians, political parties, media, pundits, businesses, the wealthy cannot see what is happening because it lies outside their belief system.

The potential of the economy going into a meltdown in the vein of the Great Depression lies not in the inability of politicians and others to think outside the box but in their inability to perceive outside the box.

Sadly Canadians would be better governed, have better financial and economic management, better social policies et al ……. if instead of politicians choosing what to do, the choice of how to deal with matters was decided by chance [e.g. coin flip].

Because as long as politicians cannot perceive the reality that exists for a growing majority of Canadians, chance would not only result in a good or the best decision being made more often………but is the only way the good or best decision will be chosen period.
